Statement by the UN Special Co-ordinator

Gaza- 19 June 2002 - UNSCO - The following is a statement made today by the United Nations Special Co-ordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Mr. Terje Roed-Larsen:

UN Special Co-ordinator Terje Roed-Larsen reiterated his longstanding condemnation of terrorist attacks in light of this afternoon's attack in Jerusalem. He stressed that both he and the Secretary-General had clearly and repeatedly labeled such attacks against civilians as morally repugnant and in violation of international law. Such attacks, he stated, cannot be endured, and must stop.

Prior to today's attack, Mr. Roed-Larsen had met with Chairman Arafat and other senior PA officials, including security officials, and stressed that all terrorist attacks must end.
