Ihsanoglu sorrowed at recent events in Gaza Strip

The Secretary General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu expressed his deep sorrow at the events witnessed recently in the Gaza Strip, particularly the clashes that took place after the Friday prayers. Such happenings, he said, cause prejudice to the Palestinian people and to their just cause and sidetracks it.

The Secretary General appealed to all the Palestinian forces and formations to observe restraint and be governed by their spirit of responsibility, to subordinate their action to wisdom, to put an end to all tension and internal fighting and to distance themselves from all that may breed discord among them. He called upon all factions to effect an immediate return to the national dialogue and to focus their energy on what may serve the cause of Palestine so as to enable the Palestinian people to achieve their national rights, to accede to freedom and independence and to establish their own independent State with Al-Quds Al-Sharif/Jerusalem as its capital.

Also, the OIC Secretary General launched a call to each and everyone, in these days of the upcoming advent of Holy month of Ramadan, the month of mercy and acts of propitiation, not to politicize religion, to observe the sanctity of ritual worship and not to use pulpits for the purpose of instigation but rather for the purpose of raising brother Muslims’ awareness of their noble faith, as a faith of tolerance, fellowship and love.
