Report of the Secretary-General
International Maritime Organization
1. The Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), at its forty-first session, decided, on 27 October 1978, that the national liberation movements recognized,
, by the League of Arab States should be invited as observers to IMO meetings and conferences.
2. In order to implement this decision, the IMO Assembly, at its eleventh session, amended its rules of procedure on 6 November 1979. Observers from the Palestine Liberation Organization have attended IMO meetings and conferences since that date.
3. Consultations are currently in progress between IMO and UNRWA in order to determine and to agree on appropriate arrangements for the provision of training facilities for Palestinian trainees in the maritime field.
