• From 05 — 11 September, the Logistics Cluster facilitated the transportation of 649 pallets of Food, WASH and Shelter supplies, via 25 trucks on behalf of 12 partners from the humanitarian community.
• During the reporting period the Logistics Cluster has received 15 requests for facilitating the transportation of humanitarian relief including food, WASH and shelter items. Eight requests have been completed and the remaining five are being prepared for transportation in the coming days.
• On 9 September, the Logistics Cluster Gaza Emergency Operation held the seventh coordination meeting since the start of the operation. To ensure maximum participation, the meeting was held simultaneously in three locations; Jerusalem, Ramallah and Gaza City and all linked via video teleconference. Since activation on 30 July, the Logistics Cluster has:
• Facilitated the transportation of 6617 pallets of humanitarian relief supplies via 248 trucks on behalf of humanitarian organisations for distribution within the Gaza Strip.
• Supported 40 humanitarian organisations including Arab Society for Rehabilitation, PU-AMI and UNICEF.
•Facilitated the transportation of over 3,400 out of a total of 6617 pallets of private donations from local organisations and civil society groups for distribution within the Gaza Strip.
Since activation on 30 July:
• Five staging areas for cargo consolidation, palletisation and loading prior to transportation have been made available by the Logistics Cluster for use by the humanitarian community. The staging areas are located in Jerusalem, Hebron, Ramallah, Nablus and Ashqelon.
• Three dedicated warehouses have been secured by the Logistics Cluster for use as common storage for the humanitarian community inside the Gaza Strip. The warehouses are located in Middle Area/Gaza City (800 m2 capacity), Khan Younis (600 m2 Capacity) and Rafah (450 m2 Capacity) where an additional refrigerated warehouse (40 m2 capacity) is available.
• Seven weekly Logistics Cluster Coordination Meetings have been held with partners attending in Jerusalem, Ramallah and Gaza City, all linked via video teleconference.
• 39 information products have been shared including meeting minutes, daily and weekly Situation Updates, Service Request Guidance and Logistics Cluster Concept of Operations (ConOps) via the dedicated Logistics Cluster mailing list and Gaza Operations page on the Logistics Cluster website: http://logcluster.org/ops/gazal4a
• GIS mapping support, including publication of ConOps, Access Constraints maps and maps upon request for the humanitarian community have been provided.
Coordination of movement with COGAT (Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories) of 248 trucks from the West Bank and Israel into the Gaza Strip.
• Consolidation of information on crossing points and liaising with relevant authorities to ease bottlenecks and investigate possible solutions to delays.
Other Logistics Gaps or Bottlenecks
• Cargo transported via Betunia crossing from the West Bank into Israel is currently experiencing delays due to limited capacity, opening hours and security equipment. Delays cause increased costs and lead time for redirecting trucks, fees for arrival at Kerem Shalom after 13h30 to cross in the Gaza Strip. Please see the table below for further information.
• During the reporting period (05 — 11 Sept), 11 trucks loaded in Ramallah were redirected to cross at Share Ephraim, a northern alternative to Tarqumia for trucks redirected from Betunia. Two of the 11 trucks redirected through Share Ephraim were delayed due to temporary closure of one of the two security checking lines at the crossing.
