Addendum


Pursuant to rule 11 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the Secretary-General is submitting the following summary statement.

The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 4322nd meeting, held on 30 May 2001 in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations, having before it the report of the Secretary-General on the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (S/2001/499).

The President drew attention to a draft resolution (S/2001/523), which had been prepared in the course of the Council’s prior consultations.

The Security Council proceeded to vote on draft resolution S/2001/523, and adopted it unanimously as resolution 1351 (2001) (for the text, see S/RES/1351 (2001); to be issued in Official Records of the Security Council, Fifty-sixth Year, Resolutions and Decisions of the Security Council, 2001).

The President stated that, following consultations of the Council, he had been authorized to make a statement on behalf of the Council and read out the text of that statement (for the text, see S/PRST/2001/15, to be issued in Official Records of the Security Council, Fifty-sixth Year, Resolutions and Decisions of the Security Council, 2001).

The situation in the Great Lakes region (see S/1996/15/Add.43-45; S/1997/40/Add.5, 7, 9, 13, 16 and 17; and S/2001/15/Add.6)

The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 4323rd meeting, held on 30 May 2001 in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations, having before it the report of the Security Council mission to the Great Lakes region, 15-26 May 2001 (S/2001/521). There was one suspension and one resumption of the meeting.
The President, with the consent of the Council, invited the representatives of Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa and Uganda, at their request, to participate in the discussion of the item without the right to vote.

The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 4324th meeting, held on 1 June 2001 in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations, having before it the report of the Secretary-General pursuant to paragraph 5 of resolution 1330 (2000) (S/2001/505).

The President drew attention to a draft resolution (S/2001/545), which had been prepared in the course of the Council’s prior consultations.

The Security Council proceeded to vote on draft resolution S/2001/545, and adopted it unanimously as resolution 1352 (2001) (for the text, see S/RES/1352 (2001); to be issued in Official Records of the Security Council, Fifty-sixth Year, Resolutions and Decisions of the Security Council, 2001).
