WEDNESDAY SEPT 8 - UNRWA TO OPEN REPLACEMENT SHELTERS
AND A SCHOOL IN RAFAH
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) is to open 103 new shelters for Rafah families whose homes have been demolished during the intifada.
Buses taking journalists from UNRWA’s Gaza City Headquarters on Talatini St. will depart at 09:30hrs on WEDNESDAY SEPT. 8th.
At a short ceremony to inaugurate the homes and give keys to the beneficiaries, Peter Hansen, UNRWA’s Commissioner-General, will make a statement on house demolitions.
From September 2000 until the end of August 2004, 23,740 people in Gaza had lost their homes in Israeli demolition operations.
Correspondents will have the opportunity to interview Mr Hansen and should be back in Gaza City by 13:00hrs.
The new homes have been funded with donations from Norway, Italy and the USA.
