SUBCOMMITTEE I
AD HOC COMMITTEE ON THE PALESTINIAN QUESTION
21st Meeting
Press Release GA/PAL/61
13 November 1947

SUBCOMMITTEE I CONTINUES CONSIDERATION OF BOUNDARY QUESTIONS

Reconvening this evening at 7:15 p.m. at Lake Success, Subcommittee of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Palestinian Question continued discussion of the revised report of the Working Group on boundaries.

The Subcommittee first took up the question of Western Galilee which the UNSCOP partition plan would place in the proposed Arab State. The Jewish Agency claims part of this region for the Jewish State.

The Subcommittee agreed to recommend the allocation of a small part of Western Galilee in the Safad area, comprising three villages with a total population of 1,400 Arabs, to the proposed Jewish State.

The Subcommittee team took up the question of the territory of the city of Jerusalem. The UNSCOP Partition Plan would, include in this territory the whole city of Jerusalem together with Bethlehem and a belt of surrounding land.

The Jewish Agency asks that the northern part of Jewish-inhabited Jerusalem be set up as an enclave.

The Delegates of the USA, Canada and South Africa expressed their preference for the UNSCOP majority plan, while the Polish delegate indicated support for the Jewish request.

The Subcommittee adjourned without reaching a decision on the question and will reconvene tomorrow, Friday, at 3:00 p.m. at Flushing Meadow.
