Press Release
On the Israeli Occupation Authorities’ do not consent to the demand of the OIC Observer Mission for Participating in Monitoring the Palestinian Presidential Elections

The Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, decided to dispatch a mission to participate in efforts to monitor the Palestinian presidential elections which are to be held on 9 January 2005, in response to the invitation addressed to the OIC General Secretariat by the Palestinian National Authority (PNA). All the necessary information had been sent to concerned quarters one month before this event in order to secure the entry of the members of the OIC delegation to the PNA territories to carry out their mission. Nevertheless, the Israeli occupation authorities did not give its consent to this request, thereby thwarting their mission.
While denouncing this Israeli measure, which is incompatible with their announced readiness to facilitate all process of these elections, the Organization of the Islamic Conference calls upon the international community to intervene in order to put an end to such practices, which the Israeli occupation authorities are perpetrating against the interests of the Palestinian people and its National Authority.
The Organization of the Islamic Conference takes this opportunity to wish the Palestinian people success in their efforts aimed at strengthening their democratic institutions as well as their endeavors to recover their inalienable national rights, including the right to return, self-determination, and the establishment of their independent Palestinian State on their national soil, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
