PRESS RELEASE MADE BY THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE
REPUBLIC OF TURKEY
Turkey receives with satisfaction that an agreement has been reached to form a National Unity Government in Palestine as a result of the dialogue among Palestinian factions in Makka under the auspicies of the Saudi Arabian King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.
We wish that the Government would be formed and the public order in Palestine would be restored, Palestinian people's hardships would be alleviated, and necessary steps for the renovation of the institutions would be launched rapidly in all fields, primarily in the fields of health, education and security.
In light of the experiences obtained in the period after the Palestinian Legislation Council elections, taking the expectations of Palestinian people and the recommendations of the international community into consideration in the political program of the new government will contribute a lot to solving the issues facing the Palestinian people.
Moreover, giving priority to the revitalization of the peace process on the basis of relevant UN resolutions and Road Map would be highly desirable.
We regard the new Palestinian National Government as an important opportunity for the removal of the tension in Gaza Strip rapidly, for handling Palestinian people's deep economic hardships, and for the revitalization of the peace process.
We invite the international community to have a constructive approach towards the new Palestinian Government and to act in an encouraging manner in order to let Palestinians undertake expected steps for the removal of the social and the economic hardships, and to take expectations of the Palestinian people into consideration.
