Jerusalem, 4 September 2009
As in previous years, Zaragoza Regional Council in Spain has contributed funds to improve the situation of the most vulnerable families in West Bank refugee camps. In 2008, the Spanish region offered direct supported to approximately 15,000 people in the Beit Jibrin and Dheisheh camps through the rehabilitation of storm water channels, sewerage pipes and manholes.
In addition, the Council’s contribution has enabled the employment of local construction workers by the project, improving prospects for their households and families.
UNRWA’s cooperation with Zaragoza Regional Council began in 2006, when the Region committed its support of the rehabilitation of seven Special Hardship families in UNRWA’s shelters in the West Bank.
