Expropriation of Land in the West Bank

Spain condemns the decision by the Israeli authorities to expropriate 400 hectares of land
in the Bethlehem district (West Bank) to expand the nearby settlement of Gvaot,
and calls on them to reconsider this decision.

01/09/2014 -- The Government of Spain takes this opportunity to restate its well-known position regarding the illegality of the settlements, and has always condemned their establishment, maintenance and expansion.

Spain considers this decision to be particularly unfortunate given the current delicate state of Israeli-Palestinian relations, in which all sides should refrain from any action which could interfere with progress towards peace after the cease-fire in Gaza, agreed on 26 August.
