UNRWA has deep concerns about the deteriorating humanitarian situation

Beirut

The Director of UNRWA Affairs in Lebanon Richard Cook expressed deep concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation and the losses of civilian lives in Nahr El Bared camp due to the ongoing fierce fighting since yesterday.

“The events taking place in Nahr El Bared camp and surrounding areas are distressing. We are deeply concerned about the developing humanitarian crisis, particularly the danger to civilian lives.

“There have already been deaths and injuries in the camp. Once a ceasefire is called, UNRWA will ensure essential care, food and water will be provided to the inhabitants of the camp as well as evacuating the injured and killed” Mr. Cook said.

UNRWA is working in close cooperation with the Lebanese Army, the Lebanese Red Cross, UN agencies and other parties to establish and provide for the needs of the people of Nahr El Bared Camp.

“In times of violence, sadly it is always innocent civilians who suffer the most, I remain hopeful the situation will come to an end as soon as possible and no more innocent lives will be lost,” Mr. Cook said.
