UNITED NATIONS CONCILIATION COMMISSION FOR PALESTINE
COMMUNIQUE

In response to the humanitarian appeal of the United Nations Conciliation Commission for Palestine, the two Parties have agreed to the establishment of a Mixed Committee of Experts, composed of one Arab representative, Mr. Labbane, and one Israeli representative, Mr. Lifshitz, charged with establishing the basis of a procedure which will permit the unfreezing, on a reciprocal and equal basis, of Arab assets which have been blocked both by the Arab States and by Israel since the beginning of hostilities in Palestine.

This measure was suggested to the two Parties by the Conciliation Commission with a view to creating a favorable atmosphere for the exchanges of views which are taking place in Lausanne, and is in line with the Commission’s unceasing efforts to aid the Palestine refugees in a practical and effective manner.

The first meeting of the Committee of Experts took place this afternoon, 16 August, under the chairmanship of Dr. P. de Azcarate, Principal Secretary of the Conciliation Commission, who will be the Commission’s representative on the Committee.
