Tunisian solidarity with the Palestinian people
Tunisia firmly condemned today Israeli military aggression against defenseless Palestinians in Rafah and Gaza. It also dispatched a shipment of humanitarian relief to the Palestinian people.
A statement released by the ministry of foreign affairs expressed Tunisia's “deep concern at the military aggression perpetrated by Israeli occupation troops against the defenseless Palestinian people in Rafah and the Gaza strip". It added, “Tunisia vehemently denounces the flagrant violations of international and humanitarian law and particularly the 4th Geneva Convention on the protection of civilians during times of occupation, Tunisia calls upon the United Nations.” It also called upon the international community “to put an end to Israeli aggression and offer international protection to the Palestinian people.”
An air shipment containing six tons of food, a ton of medical supplies, and four tons of covers and tents was dispatched today to the Palestinian people. The official news agency TAP said the relief initiative was decided by President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in solidarity with the Palestinian people in the face of aggression.
