UNRWA Launches Campaign to End Violence Against Women
Yesterday saw the launch of a campaign throughout the West Bank to end violence against women, organized by UNRWA’s education and relief and social services programmes.
During the 16-day campaign, a series of activities will be held in UNRWA’s schools and womens’ centres throughout the West Bank, including creative workshops, documentary screenings and special sessions on the adverse health-related and psychological consequences of gender-based violence. Young people in the camps will be encouraged to engage imaginatively with the issue of violence against women through art and short stories. Events will culminate in a final ceremony at the Ramallah Womens’ Training Centre on December 10th, which will showcase the childrens’ artistic and literary works along with UNRWA’s engagement in ending violence against women. Local dignitaries and Agency officials will participate in this final event, which promises to offer a platform for discussion and exchange.
The campaign in the West Bank is the Agency’s contribution to the tenth annual International Campaign of Ending Violence Against Women, in which governments, institutions and individuals worldwide will be urged to ‘Commit, Act and Demand’ and end violence against women.
