UNESCO supports Palestinian media workshop in lead up to disengagement process
01-09-2005 (Paris/Ramallah)

A workshop to prepare Palestinian media professionals and journalists to cover the Israeli disengagement was held late July/early August in Gaza in the premises of the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation Media Training Centre (PBC).
Supported by UNESCO and organised by the PBC, the workshop aimed to help participants to sharpen their skills in order to develop full awareness of the complexity and the perspectives of reporting on the Israeli withdrawal.

Some 25 participants from both private and public media in Palestine, took part in the workshop, including a balanced number of women media professional participants.

UNESCO hopes to follow through with further workshops on conflict-sensitive reporting, the role of women in the Palestinian media and political and social awareness in the Palestinian media, at the same time as a new media resource centre is established in Gaza.
