The EU Representative, Mr. John Gatt-Rutter, today opened an exhibition featuring photos of the EU-UNRWA photo competition titled 'Change the Picture’ at Rashad El Shawa Cultural Centre in Gaza city. The EU Representative and Director of UNRWA Operations in Gaza, Mr. Robert Turner, met with the top three winners of the competition in the presence of many visitors.
‘I am very happy the EU-UNRWA photo exhibition is travelling to Gaza this week and that we can meet with and hear from the winners. Young Palestinians are the best advocates concerning their lives, ambitions and rights. Through this competition we wanted to give voice to young people and help them reach out to the wider world’, said the EU Representative. ‘Young Palestine refugees in Gaza live under extremely difficult circumstances but still manage to preserve their creativity and play a leading role in their communities. The EU is working closely with our longstanding partner UNRWA to make sure our support goes to where it matters most: health, education and job creation’, added the EU Representative.
During his visit, the EU Representative also met with civil society and business representatives and visited EU-supported community-based organizations.
The EU is providing significant support for Palestinians in Gaza in partnership with the Palestinian Authority and civil society. The EU is also the largest multilateral provider of assistance to Palestine refugees though UNRWA.
