UN MEDIATOR ON PALESTINE PROPOSES
AN ARMED GUARD FOR JERUSALEM


(The following has been received from the UN Press Officer with the UN Mediator in Rhodes)


Count Folke Bernadotte, UN Mediator on Palestine, revealed today at a press conference prior to his departure for Tel Aviv, that he had already proposed through the Secretary-General of the United Nations that France, Belgium and the United States -- the three members of the Truce Commission -- provide a force of 1,000 armed guards for Jerusalem. Count Bernadotte added that an additional force would be required for Haifa.
