Statements made by
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson

(Paris, October 17, 2005)

France condemns the attack that killed three Israelis yesterday in the West Bank. We offer our condolences to the victims’ families.

France calls on the parties to exercise the utmost restraint and to do everything to preserve the dynamism for dialogue set in motion by the withdrawal from Gaza. This requires the resumption of talks between the parties and the implementation of the road map and conclusions of the Sharm el Sheikh summit.

In the wake of the assassination of an Islamic Jihad official, France recalls its steadfast opposition, and that of the European Union, to extra-judicial executions which are contrary to international law.

There too, France calls on the two parties to show restraint.
