Abu Dhabi - Wednesday 20 December.
UNRWA signed today a landmark Cooperation Agreement with the Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahayan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation in the United Arab Emirates worth 6 Million USD.
Under the agreement the Foundation will finance the construction, rehabilitation and equipping of eight schools in Gaza and the West Bank.
Signing for the Foundation, its Acting General Manager Salem Bin Obeid Al-Dhahiri said that the Foundation's choice of UNRWA as a partner was clear evidence of the confidence the Foundation had in the Agency. He praised UNRWA's role in helping to alleviate the suffering of the Palestine refugees and in mobilising support for them.
Mr Peter Ford, the Representative of UNRWA's Commissioner-General in the Gulf Region, said: "we are delighted to be entering into this important new partnership, which testifies to the commitment of the region to the improvement of the living conditions of Palestine refugees and to their human development. It also provides further evidence of the growing cooperation between UNRWA and its partners in the United Arab Emirates."
