CERF allocates $ 7 million for emergency humanitarian needs in Gaza

14 January 2009: Even before the commencement of military operations on 27 December, Gazans were suffering from shortages of all kinds, because of Israeli restrictions on the entry of humanitarian and other goods.  But the vulnerability of the population has risen dramatically due to the latest violence, and they have no way of fleeing.

CERF has allocated $7 million to relief agencies working in Gaza.  The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
will seek to provide safe drinking water to as many as 200,000 people.  The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) will provide fuel for generators that power water pumping stations, hospitals and other municipal services in Gaza.  The World Food Programme (WFP) will provide ready-made meals to 16,000 internally displaced persons staying in UNRWA shelters.
