Ramallah, 20 April, 2017 - The Government of Japan and UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, announced today the launching of a project under the title "Women's health: addressing pressing needs for sexual and reproductive health and breast cancer services in hardly hit communities". The project will be implemented in Gaza and area C with financial support of USD 471,275 by the Government of Japan.
UNFPA will be working with the Ministry of Health and other partners in the West Bank and Gaza to provide an equal and quality sexual and reproductive health and breast cancer services in a sustainable manner and throughout the continuum of care from communities to service delivery points at all levels. With emphasis on early detection of breast cancer and interventions that target around 120,000 women.
"The Japanese Government and its people are pleased to support this project that will lead to improving the quality of life of women affected by breast cancer; particularly improving their positive coping and self-esteem," said H.E. Takeshi Okubo, Ambassador for Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to Palestine. "Japan has committed to providing a new package of assistance to the Palestinians in 2017 amounting to USD 46,688,925 mainly through international organizations."
"We are grateful to the People and the Government of Japan for their continuous commitment and support to Palestinian women. This new contribution will allow us to further build a sustainable and straight forward pathway from screening to treatment of breast cancer," said Mr. Anders Thomsen, UNFPA Representative. "Deprived communities in area C will also be targeted to lead a better knowledge of their sexual and reproductive health and rights."
