The number of Palestinians being detained under the 4 August 1985 Administrative Detention Laws continues to increase. Presently there are 186 Palestinians in various Israeli prisons. Last week the Israeli occupation authorities carried out wide-scale arrests in the Bethlehem area, particularly in the villages of Ta'amirah, Abbadiya, and the Palestinian refugee camp in the area.
In the Israeli occupied Palestinian Gaza Strip, 16 Palestinian homes were destroyed under the pretext that they were built without planning permission. Also in the Gaza Strip 20 acres of agricultural land belonging to Palestinians in the Khan Younis area were expropriated by the Israeli occupation authorities on the 21 October 1985, for the establishment of a new Zionist settlement.
On the 20 October 1985, the Israeli occupation authorities disclosed a government decision to establish a Zionist settlement on agricultural lands expropriated from the Palestinian village of Bidya in the Israeli occupied Palestinian West Bank.
The Israeli occupation authorities closed indefinitely the Palestinian weekly
Al-Bayader Al Siyassiya
Chairman Arafat wishes to assert that these criminal acts can only lead to an exacerbation of the already explosive situation in
the Israeli occupied Palestinian territories and calls on your good offices to take immediate and effective measures to put an end to this intolerable and inhuman situation.
