Statement by the Minister for Foreign Affairs on the Announcement
of the Abduction and Murder of Israeli Students in the West Bank

1. The Government of Japan expresses its condolences for the bereaved families of the three Israeli students who were abducted in the West Bank and were found dead, and strongly condemns their abduction and murder. Japan demands that the perpetrators be brought to justice as soon as possible under close cooperation between Israel and Palestine.

2. Japan urges all the parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint in order not to further deteriorate the situation. Japan is convinced that the problems faced by people in the Middle East can never be solved through violence, but only through negotiations and efforts to build mutual trust among the parties to the conflict. Japan strongly hopes that all the parties concerned will make utmost efforts to that end.
