In Gaza, UNRWA will distribute hot meals to approximately 90,000 people. The project will be implemented through the Agency’s community-based organisations (CBOs), which include nine women’s programme centres and six community rehabilitation centres as well as six youth activity centres. In total, approximately 30,000 meals for three persons each will be prepared and distributed to the poor at these CBOs. The Agency will also arrange to deliver food to those who cannot reach to the CBOs.
In the West Bank, thanks to the generous donation of the KBZF, UNRWA will purchase fresh meat for 12,710 vulnerable families who are unable to meet their minimum nutritional needs. Each family will each receive 2.5kg of locally purchased meat over the four Fridays of Ramadan through UNRWA’s partner network of CBOs in refugee camps. Priority will be given to orphans, the elderly, and to those who have lost their homes due to Israeli military operations or violent attacks by Israeli settler groups. In addition, a Children’s Charity in Bethlehem, SOS Kindergarten International, will receive 100kg of meat each week of Ramadan to support their work with poor and homeless orphans.
The Khalifa Bin Zayed Foundation, one of UNRWA’s most consistent donors in the Gulf, has been partnering with the Agency for over three years, during which it has provided funding for several projects including the “Adopt a School” initiative, which assists UNRWA in its provision of education services in Gaza.
