LETTER DATED 16 JULY 1997 FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE GENERAL
ASSEMBLY ADDRESSED TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL

As you are aware, the tenth emergency special session of the General Assembly was resumed on Tuesday, 15 July 1997, pursuant to paragraph 13 of Assembly resolution ES-10/2 of 25 April 1997. It would be recalled that the emergency special session was convened as a result of the failure of the Security Council to adopt a position on the matter of illegal Israeli actions in occupied East Jerusalem and the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Thirty-seven Member States and one observer participated in the debate on the "Illegal Israeli actions in occupied East Jerusalem and the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory". On Tuesday, 15 July 1997, by a recorded vote of 131 in favour to 3 against, with 14 abstentions, the General Assembly adopted resolution ES-10/3.

In that connection,I have the honour to draw your attention, in particular, to paragraphs 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 and 13 of the resolution, in which the General Assembly:

I would like to request your assistance in bringing the contents of the resolution to the attention of the members of the Security Council and would also request that you circulate the text of the present letter as a document of the Security Council.

(Signed) RAZALI Ismail
