In 2011, the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People was observed on 29 November at United Nations Headquarters in New York, as well as the United Nations Offices at Geneva and Vienna.

  UNIC Baku on the occasion of Solidarity Day partnered with Western University and the Embassy of Palestine to Azerbaijan to hold an informative session for students and professors with the participation of the Ambassador of the Palestinian Authority. A PowerPoint presentation highlighting the historical background and current affairs was delivered by the Ambassador, which was followed by a lively discussion. The movie “Palestine: Bread Winners, Bread Makers” transcribed into the Azerbaijani language by UNIC Baku was also screened at the event, and a translated version of the Secretary-General’s message was disseminated among media contacts.
  
  UNIC Mexico inaugurated DPI’s “Exhibit on the Question of Palestine and the United Nations,” translated into Spanish, at the Institute Matías Romero, the Diplomatic Academy of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where it remained for a week. Following the inauguration, the travelling exhibit will be displayed throughout Mexico. Around 80 people participated in the launch, including officials of the Ministry and the Institute, representatives of the diplomatic corps, civil society, media and students. In addition to the Palestinian Ambassador, the Director General of United Nations Affairs in the Ministry spoke, and a UNIC official read the message of the Secretary-General.
  
  UN Resident Coordinator in the Dominican Republic, in partnership with the UN Association of the Dominican Republic held an event on 30 November to inaugurate the Spanish version of DPI’s “Exhibit on the Question of Palestine and the United Nations” in Funglode.
  
  UNIC Moscow in partnership with the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Embassy of Palestine and the Mission of the Arab League organized a commemorative meeting to mark Solidarity Day. The event was held at MGIMO-University and brought together MFA officials, ambassadors of Arab and African states, academics, professors, students and representatives of civil society. Mr. Sergei Vershinin, Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry Middle East Department, read out a message by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on the occasion and gave a broad overview of the situation in the Middle East. Ambassadors of Palestine and the Arab League also made substantive remarks. A UNIC official delivered the Secretary-General’s message on the Day and DPI’s “Exhibit on the Question of Palestine and the United Nations,” translated into Russian, was displayed in the corridors of MGIMO-University.
  
  UNIC Pretoria partnered with South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) and the Embassy of Palestine in South Africa to hold a panel discussion in observance of Solidarity Day. A UNIC official delivered the Message of the Secretary-General. The South African Government was represented by Ambassador Ngombane and Ambassador Zulu, who both spoke of their recent visits to Palestine while drawing parallels with the South African anti-apartheid struggle.
  
  UNIC Rio de Janeiro on the occasion of Solidarity Day hosted the opening of DPI’s “Exhibit on the Question of Palestine and the United Nations” translated into Portuguese.
  
  UNIC Jakarta translated DPI’s “Exhibit on the Question of Palestine and the United Nations” into Bahasa Indonesia and inaugurated it on the occasion of Solidarity Day at Atma Jaya Catholic University in Jakarta. The Catholic University was proposed by the Representative of Palestine as a way to get away from branding the question of Palestine as a religious issue. The event included opening remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Head of the ASEAN Centre at Atma Jaya University, remarks from the UN Resident Coordinator, the Chairman of ASEAN Foundation, the Representative of Palestine to Indonesia and the Director General for Asia, Pacific, and African Affairs of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event was attended by some 85 people, including university students, lecturers, young Indonesians from the Foreign Ministry's diplomatic training centre and the media. Following the inauguration, the exhibit was put on public display outside Universitas Prof. Dr. Moestopo (Beragama).
  
  UNIC Dar es Salaam, in collaboration with the Embassy of Palestine, organized a commemoration on the occasion of Solidarity Day. The event included a public debate at the Mozambique-Tanzania Centre for Foreign Relations, where the Tanzanian Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation read a statement of support by the Government of the Republic of Tanzania for the establishment of the State of Palestine side by side with the Jewish State of Israel. A photo exhibit, together with DPI’s “Exhibit on the Question of Palestine and the United Nations” and a video showcased the situation and history of Palestine. A popular local poet, Mrisho Mpoto, entertained the audience with a powerful poem encouraging Tanzanians to take bold actions to support Palestinians. The UN Secretary-General’s message was presented by the UN Resident Coordinator.
